HAPPY NEW YEAR
Well it has been awhile since I have done this so I might be a little rusty. Even though my writing has been limited, I have been involved with the club. I was able to attend a few events between sporting events with the kids and working. You are even wondering if it was I that turned the power off in Willits twice. Answer; yes it was my crew doing improvements.
I thought I might do a year in review for the members that might have missed an event or function.
In January 09, we had our Installation dinner at the Broiler Steak House introducing our new officers Duncan Neff as President and Jim Cunningham as Sergeant of Arms. It was a stormy night so it was nice for a “Hot Toddy”.
In February the cars and members made the trek to Konocti Harbor for Valentines Brunch. They got our reservation right and the food I am told was excellent.
In March we headed down to the Custom Coating for their open house to see their business of powder coating and how it is done. I was impressed. This turned out to be an All Car Club outing because I seen Mustanger’s, Early Irons, A’s, and a few more car clubs I can’t remember. It was a large turnout.
In April we went to Rays Foods for their Grand re-opening. I think we had around 15 cars show up for some good conversation and Bar B Q. Some were just driving by and stopped and stayed for the fun. There was another activity I did was a chili cook off for the football fundraiser at the community center. The Shifter’s sponsored Julie and myself and we brought home the “Chef’s Choice Award”
In May was the Petaluma Car Show and Jim M. and Duncan took the Cop Car down. I was staying down there in my RV with the family and met them there. Lee was trying to get there but the tires on the Ambulance were giving him trouble. After a couple of blow outs and help from friends getting a tow truck that could haul the Ambulance to Les Schwab in Willits for some new tire. Lee made it back down to Petaluma with 10 minutes to spare for the parade of cars.
At the end of May we had the Willits Community Festival and Car Show. The weather before the show on Friday looked a little on the “wet” side but the clouds past and the weekend was great.
In June the club made the trek to the Rest Stop just north of the Covelo turn off for a BBQ hot dogs and potluck. This was a great Idea by Rich West and Dave B. since Rich in his job activities was to maintain the rest stops. It was a great turn out in a park like settings. Being in good Shifter Spirit, the club rendered assistance to a “Damsel in Distress” by giving her direction to Philo. She was coming from Lake County and meeting a Gentleman for a blind date and made a wrong turn at the Hwy 20/101 interchange.
July 4th was the parade and BBQ. Jim M. kept his fan belt on this year.
In August the only thing I can remember was going to Covelo for the Black Berry Festival. The Elks moved their show to October.
September was the Early Irons Car show that members attended. I think Rea Brown won a trophy with the Corvette. I left early to pick up some concert tickets for Dirks Bentley.
October the Elks Cub sponsored a car show and dinner. They also had lunch available if you went into the Club House before 2:00, right Jim C. The turnout has grown each year since the first one when only 4 cars showed up. It was well organized.
In November the club went to Be Bops in Ukiah. They welcomed the club with enthusiasm. I wanted to go and check it out, but was working on getting the lights back on and taking a nap because I had to go to San Jose that night.
December brought the Christmas party Hosted at the Orr Rec. Room. I put in a bigger parking area around the garage so Brad Walton would not have to 4 X 4 his truck in the grassy hillside.
Have a great year.
