JANUARY 2008
WELL I HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING WELL AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. THE NEW YEAR STARTED OUT WELL WITH A MIXED BAG AS FAR AS THE WEATHER IS CONCERNED WITH SUN, RAIN, SNOW AND SOME FROSTY ROADS AROUND THE VALLEY. I HOPE EVERYONE HAS DONE A SAFETY CHECK ON THEIR VEHICALS SO THEY ARE READY FOR THE ROAD. A FRIEND OF MINE I NOTICED THE OTHER DAY HAD FOUR LARGE BAGS OF KITTY LITTER/ FLOOR SWEEP IN THE BACK OF HIS TRUCK. TWO REASONS HE SAID” ONE IS FOR WEIGHT FOR TRACKTION TO KEEP FROM HOPPY AROUND WHILE DRIVING AND THE OTHER IS FOR PUTTING DOWN ON THE ROAD FOR TRACTION IN SLIPPERY PLACES WHEN OR IF I GET STUCK”. I HAVEN’T TRIED IT BUT SOUNDS GOOD. Oops, cap locks on, sorry.
Let’s see what’s been happening. We had the Christmas party in December with a great turn out. I wish all the members could have attended for this event. It was in the “Orr Garage and Rec. room again with the decorations provided by my lovely wife Julie. Great job Hon with all you did. I along with the rest of the group I think tried near all the food that the group brought. During and after the party the balls were dropping as people played pool on the new table and Duncan was trying his hand at the arcade machine. It was set up just the way Duncan likes it, FREE PLAY. That’s what the games are for and I got enjoyment seeing them get good use. We had a gift exchange and I have been trying to remember what the hot item was. I think it was the reusable shopping bags from Safeway that kept getting stolen.
In January we had the installation dinner of new officers and the thanking of the outgoing officers. New board members are as follows: President; Neil Orr, V.P. Craig Sales, Sec. Carolyn Cunningham, Tres. Lou Bettencourt, Sergeant of Arms Dan Frankum, Director Dave Bouthillier, & Directors at Large Jim C. & Jim M.
Thanking outgoing officers were Bill Baxter, Lee Bryant and Lois Bettencourt.
I almost forgot that in December the Willits Shifters Car Club received a spot on the “Dusty Whitney Memorial Plaque “. The club will have its name added to the plaque located in Bud Snider park along with the other names that have won this honor over the years. There is a nice picture and article written in the Dec.21, 2007 issue of the Willits News. Original club members from 50’s and 60’s were there for the photo along with a few current members. I wish I had a tape recorder to keep of all the interesting stories that the original members told. I could not keep up with the stories as one would end and the other would start.
